Dunmow Pasted in Pre-Season FriendliesHere's how our home leg of the 2 legged match v BBFC of Broxbourne was reported on their web site - thought you may be interested! AUGUST 13TH 2000 - REPORT BY IVY Despite missing a number of key personnel, BBFC notched their first league scalp, although it was against a team who have an aggregate total of -2 points from their last two seasons as a Saturday league side. With John Cranwell and Rob Smith both making welcome returns to the team, the front line looked strong, but with two key defenders missing and a new keeper, the BB back line was forced to draw on their reserves. The match started with BB passes looking as well directed as their arrival had been and both teams looking to establish a vitally important good start. However, having survived the initial push BBFC hit back, and after one close effort Rob Smith surged through the defence and finished well to put him joint top of the goal scorers chart with Cranwell. From the kick off Dunmow surged forward, pressurising the newly acquainted defence who held together well, with all four having strong matches. With Dunmow committing men forward the defence was left exposed, with good efforts by Smith and Cranwrell going close. However, Dunmow took advantage of a dubious line call by the ref to launch a ball into the BBFC box, and with confusion reigning in the defence it was the Dunmow strikers who kept their heads to knock the ball in during the scramble. With the match evenly poised the Dunmow team poured forward pinning BBFC into their own half. However, the defence stood firm and, just before half time, Rob Smith managed to score after a poor punch by the keeper. The second half started evenly as BBFC took the opportunity to make a few substitutions in midfield. Chances came at both ends, with Dunmow coming close after a dubious offside decision. Mid way through the half disaster struck as both John and Sachem picked up injuries, however, both managed to play on. With the match drawing to a close the Dunmow team began to tire, this gave Paul Bromage the chance to open his account - bundling the ball in from a corner - and Rob to complete his hat-trick after some extremely slack defending. The match finished with BBFC pushing men forward trying to kill off their tired opponents, but no more goals came, and the match finished 4-1. BBFC: Lacey, Male, Wooten, Schmee, Reed, Norris, Cranwell, Ivison, Pope, Bromage, R. Smith Substitutes: P. Bromage, Trotter, Darren (all used) Man of the Match: Rob Smith A reasonable summary of the game I thought and it filled this space up nicely!! To be serious - we should have turned this side over - maybe if we;d had 11 players for the return at Hertford we could have - then again if my auntie had bollocks... |
