Match Report ArchivesSeason 2000/2001 Pre-SeasonPre-season friendlies are now upon us and the team have set off where they finished last season! No surprise there then. A really good performance against Takeley on Thursday (who had achieved a 4-4 draw with Leyton Orient a couple of weeks earlier) was replaced with the usual rubbish against Waterhouse the following Saturday, showing the fitness levels of the team were really not up to 2 games in 2 days. Mind you the result against BBFC showed we really haven't improved much, despite the inclusion of a number of new players! As always match reports will follow - click the score to read them or visit the results section Check out the archives section to see how poor we were last season. So far I have only been able to stomach typing up February's reports - I may do the rest...
Here we go again!Despite training taking place over the summer Dunmow came out of the traps with the pre-season friendlies like Donkeys on acid. Plenty of effort but with no coherent plans on how to score goals, or defend! 03/09/00 Away v BBFC (Broxbourne) Lost 6-0 Team Chris F, Chris R, Andy, Mark, Simon, Rick, Kolja, Martin, Wayne Yep - only 8 players for the final pre-season morale booster! This was made worse after about 20 minutes when midfield maestro Rick - who was playing sweeper in a makeshift back 3, wrecked his ankle and had to go off for about 30 minutes before coming back and standing, uncomfortably, in goal for half of the second half. Two own-goals certainly didn't help matters and Dunmow trailed 4-0 at half-time. A much improved second half - despite the reduced numbers - saw a much more positive display with both Andy and Martin having a number of good chances to reduce the area, created from sterling work by Kolja and Mark on the right and Chris R and Wayne on the left. Alas it wasn't to be - you can only run backwards and forwards up and down a pitch for so long before large gaping holes appear in your defence and BBFC capitalised on this twice to run out 6-0 winners. Man of the Match - Chris Riley. 24/08/00 Away v Barnston Reserves Lost 12-0 Team Chris F, Chris R, Andy, Mark, Simon, Jason, Rick, Vernon, Kolja, Martin, Wayne, Sub Steve Well and truly pasted!! We were down 8-0 at the end of the first half (despite Chris Fox saving another penalty) so we had a good second half come back - honest. This lot were just miles ahead of us in fitness and ability. The finishing of their strikers was something we merely dream of! Man of the match Chris Fox 20/08/00 Away v Hatfield Heath Reserves Lost 5-0 Team Chris F, Chris R, Andy, Jason, Mark, Kolja, Craig, Martin, Chris W, John, Wayne, Sub Steve Roving match reporter Claire was away for this one, so I'll do my best! The game started in typical Dunmow fashion - penalty conceded (and converted) within 5 minutes of the kick off. 1-0. Dunmow then had to defend like mad for the next 10 minutes...and conceded another penalty, this time Chris Fox made a great save to his left and Dunmow woke up a bit. Unfortunately, despite a number of good balls being put through to John up front he insisted on standing offside all the time. The one time he did stay onside...he fell over the ball. Wayne, his striking partner, did his best, but ended up having to track back into midfield to help out and so didn't have many chances to increase his pre-season tally. Dunmow conceded a 2nd goal shortly before half time to go in at the break 2-0 down. The second half started as the 1st half did and in true Dunmow style we were 3-0 down after a minute. Poor defending was to blame for this one, although how we lost the ball so quickly from the kick-off is anyone's guess! It wasn't long before we were 4-0 down - an own goal this time. Hatfield played a through ball for their striker and was chased by Mark from right back, Chris Fox rushed out and all 3 players met in the middle of the 18 yard box. Chris got their fractionally first, hoofed the ball straight against Mark and watched it bounce in the back of the net. Dunmow then held on for a good 20 minute spell before conceding number 5 from a well taken corner. Poor marking leaving the oppositions burly defender a free header. Plenty of effort - not a lot of talent! Man of the Match - Mark Seton 13/08/00 Home v BBFC (Broxbourne) Lost 4-1 Team Chris F, Chris R, Andy, Pottsy, Mark, Kolja, Rick M, Chris G, Chris W, John, Wayne. Subs Rick P. Pants! Report to follow! Or maybe not! 05/08/00 Home v Waterhouse - Lost 5-1 Team; Chris F, Chris R, Andy, Vernon, David, Martin, Mark, Craig, Kolja, Damon, Wayne, Philip. Waterhouse gave us a couple of good pastings last season and this game showed little improvement on last season - despite the influx of new "talent" to the side. In true Dunmow style we had managed to lose yet another goalkeeper (Ryan, who decided a season ticket for Ipswich Town was a much better investment than playing for Dunmow) and we welcomed back Chris Fox in goals who promptly played out of his skin and took the coveted man of the match award. The
first of pitch side reporter Clare's match reports follows. I arrive 15 minutes late to find Dunmow 3-0 down. This looked like it was going to be a total washout. Phil
had to come off after a massive hit in the essentials! Wayne scored after 32 minutes with a good solid strike. Welcome back Wayne! The second half was rather like a table tennis match with the ball going from one end to another. Dunmow held up well in the second half and refused to allow Waterhouse to score...but unfortunately seemed to have no chance of scoring themselves. If it hadn't been for an outstanding performance by the keeper Chris Fox Dunmow could have been in serious trouble. Obvious man of the match Chris Fox. Welcome back Chris, hope you will stay all season and not get sent off!! [This was a little note attached to the report from Claire to me - "Yes Mark I will punch your lights out for that bloody photo" (see above!) "Careful - be very careful" The things you have to do as Webmaster for this team!
03/08/00 Home v Takeley - Lost 2-0 Team; Ryan, Chris R, Andy, Vernon, David, Martin, Mark, Craig, Kolja, Damon, Wayne, Rick. The first pre-season match saw us take on Takeley from the Essex Intermediate League who arrived on the back of a very creditable 4-4 draw against Leyton Orient. Was this the type of morale boosting friendly Dunmow needed this early in the season? Well - the lads played out of their skins to restrict Takeley to 2-0. Indeed, at half-time the sides went in at 0-0 with Takeley looking rather rattled. Dunmow even had a great chance of going 1-0 up when the winner of last seasons banana shot award Craig went 1 on 1 with the Takeley keeper only to panic and fluff the chance wide. Season 1999/2000 ReviewThose of you who are regular visitors to these pages will know that here we have the details of Dunmow's latest humiliation, team details and Claire's match reports. Because Dunmow F.C. are the unluckiest side in the country I have managed to wipe half of these out in my last update - lost forever in the midst of electronic mail. I will, now, keep a back up copy of my work - like you are always told to! Anyhow - you don't want to see all that rubbish again do you? Course you don't - so here is my considered report on last seasons efforts...
We were crap
I thank you!
Coming Soon - all the trials and tribulations of season 2000/2001. Will Dunmow actually win a game? Will Dunmow actually score more than 20 goals for the first time in 3 seasons? Will Dunmow concede less than 100 goals for the first time in 3 seasons? And a whole new look to the web-site Cor - its bloody exciting!
February 200027/02/00 Away to Quendon Athletic Lost 5-1Man of the Match - Mark Seton Team Albie, Mark, Paul, Andy, Chris, Simon (sub Chris 55 mins), Damon, Craig, Rick, Collier (sub Steve 70 mins), Martin Match Report by Pitch Side Reporter Claire This was probably one of Dunmow's worst performances. The first half showed a 4-5-1 format worked, with Dunmow only going in at the break 1-0 down. No one had an outstanding match but Chris Walsall done well (sic) to play his first full game. The second half saw Dunmow do what they do best, and went totally to pot. The game got decidedly dirty with some blatant fouls by Quendon and a great deal of abusive language. "Spoonfoot" Broomfield surpassed himself with a cracking goal and his title now goes to Craig for some brilliant misses. The shape of the side fell apart and we ended up playing like a bunch of schoolkids all following the ball in a big huddle. The referee was hopeless and had no control over the game or the players. All I can say is that it can't get any worse. I hope! Oh well, only lost 5-1.
19/02/00 Home to Quendon Athletic Lost 1-7 Man of the Match - Craig Team Andy, Mark, Paul, Mark, Chris, Damon (Sub Chris 70 mins), Craig, Rick, Collier, Simon (sub John 55 mins), Martin (sub Steve 75 mins) Match Report by pitch side reporter Clare Here we go again, another crushing defeat 7-1 - and we scored first! For the first half Dunmow played well and a speculative shot from Simon from some 25 yards out found the top corner (of the correct goal for a change) and put Dunmow one up. Dunmow's defence, with some fresh blood (Carats"brother in-law") was brilliant pushing the ball forward to a solid midfield and strong forwards. Spoonfoot Broomfield had more than one opportunity to score but as usual he lived up to his name and hoisted every chance spectacularly over the bar. At half-time Dunmow held Quendon to a 1-1 draw following a perfect strike from Quendon with 10 minutes to go before half-time. Goalscorer Simon was replaced after 55 minutes by John and the wheels promptly fell off! Within a few minutes Quendon scored to make it 2-1, and I think we can all work out what followed... Two more substitutions didn't seem to help and Quendon basically just took pot-shots at an inexperienced keeper (well, he is supposed to be the centre-back!). Given his 6 ft ish stature we couldn't believe that he got lobbed on at least 3 occasions. Bad marking, poor passing and a lacklustre performance left Dunmow open for 6 goals in the second half. Dunmow did it again - a brilliant first half and a heads down, give up, second half. Better luck next time lads...
13/02/00 Away to Lower Street 2nd Round of Division Cup Lost 7-0 Man of the Match - Mark Team Albie, Paul, Andy, Rob, Chris, Collier(sub John 50mins, Sub Steve 60mins), Mark(sub Mike 80 mins), Rick, Craig, Damon, Martin Match Report by pitch side reporter Clare Yes, 2nd Round - they only got through the 1st as they had a bye! Well, what can I say? Dunmow started well - at least they had 4 substitutes! Within 20 minutes Dunmow were 4-0 down due to an appalling defence/midfield trying to play the offside trap - they were basically walked all over. The last 25 minutes of the first half saw a massive turn around and Dunmow actually started to play football. The defence woke up and played solidify feeding some brilliant balls to an eager midfield and two goal hungry forwards. Martin "Spoonfoot" Broomfield had a good chance of scoring and did have a couple of shots on target but unfortunately the keeper managed to get in the way. The second half saw the same 11 players face Lower Street. Stroppy new player John threatened to go home at half time but words from Simon (manager) and Rick (captain) kept him on the sideline. Dunmow started the second half with renewed conviction and John had his chance and came on for an injured Kolja after 15 minutes. Super sub John lasted all of 2 minutes as he had to be substituted himself after he acquired an injury - that was worth it. Steve replaced him on the right wing. Robin managed 2 beautiful fresh air bellyflops when going for clearance headers and some bad marking left Lower Street the chance to score 3 more. Chris Walsall came on with 10 minutes left to try to lift Dunmow's flagging spirits with words of encouragement and fresh legs when everyone else was knackered. The result was no reflection on the keeper, Albie, who made some exceptional saves. On speaking to the substituted Mark Seton after the game he admitted it was the worst game he ever played! Man of The Match - Mark Seton Need I say more?!
5/02/00 Away to Sheering Athletic Reserves Lost 5-1. Man of the Match - Craig Scorer of Dunmow Goal - Own Goal (naturally!) Andy had to step into the breach as a makeshift goaly and acquitted himself well. Debuts were made by three players - let's see if they turn up next week! Team Andy, Rob, Paul, Simon (sub 45 mins New Boy), John (sub Chris 65 mins), Mark, Craig, Steve (sub Mike 60 mins), Damon, Martin Match Report by pitch side reporter Clare Dunmow started with enthusiasm and determination but true to form a couple of silly mistakes saw Dunmow 2-0 down within the first 15 minutes. Dunmow battled on but Sheering soon followed with another. A brilliant cross by John was deflected beautifully into the back of the net by Sheerings centre-half so leaving it as 3-1 at half time. Supersub Carthorse came on at half time but even his defending skills and a solid centre of midfield could not stop another 2 goals being scored by the home side. Dunmow fought bravely and had chances but spoonfoot Broomfield sent the ball skyward on more than 1 occasion. A well deserved man of the match went to Craig and a 5-1 defeat is decidedly better than the previous 13-0 performance. |
